The hand-held Fatigue Calculator:  without risk score or logo and with risk score and logo

The Fatigue Calculator is a scientific and legally defensible hand held unit, that allows for personal self assessment of an individuals fatigue risk levels in almost any workplace environment or driving situation.

The embedded Algorithm is the result of extensive research carried out by the Centre for Sleep Research, a Department of the University of South Australia (UniSA).

Once in Fatigue Calculator mode, the user is prompted to answer three simple questions pertaining to sleep habits and shift schedule.

Q1: How many hours of sleep in the last 24hr prior to starting work?

Q2 : How many hours of sleep in the last 48hrs prior to starting work?

Q3 : How long will you have been awake at the time of assessment

Utilising a specific algorithm determined by the Centre for Sleep Research, the Fatigue Calculator will calculate a Fatigue Risk Score which is categorised as:

The above Fatigue-Likelihood thresholds can be adapted to suit individual corporations requirements or for different job descriptions within your corporation. It is advised that a risk assessment is completed to determine the best risk threshold for the relevant activities to be performed.

All users of the Fatigue Calculator should be trained as to the required course of action they are to take depending on what Fatigue Likelihood Score.
.
The Fatigue Calculator can also be used to determine how long an employee is able to continue working before the restricted risk score is reached. For example, if a user were to obtain a HIGH RISK SCORE should they continue working until 6pm, they could utilise the functions of the calculator to determine at what time their score drops to medium and again drops to Low.  Refer to Case Study 3 for working example of how this is achieved.
